BROADGATE HOUSE, COVENTRY - HYDRAULIC JACKING, TEMPORARY PROPPING AND PRE-STRESSING WORKS

28th September 2015

Hydra Capsule have successfully completed a multi-disciplined project, which involved a number of services provided;

  • Supply and Fix Contract of temporary propping supports (installation, permit to load, inspections and etc)
  • Design, Supply and Fix of hydraulic jacking systems
  • Supply and Fix Crash-deck - consisting of scaffolding, ladder beam and support systems
  • Pre-stressing and post-tensioning of high-tensile stressing bars

The works consisted of installing temporary propping throughout the structure core-wall supports, which went across 4 levels of back-propping, hydraulic jacking the temporary works and pre-stressing of the tension bars to ensure the suppoort of structure was maintained during demolition and steelwork installation works.

Hydra Capsule were able to offer 24/7 serivce to ensure the loadings were correctly distributed throughout the structure and in addition we supplied competent engineers for crash-deck installation. Offering the main contractor a "one-stop" solution for all their requirements during the 3 months constructions works.

A1 LEEMING TO BATON (L12B), AGRICOLA MOTORWAY BRIDGE - SYNCHRONISED LIFTING SYSTEM BEARING REPLACEMENT

29th July 2015

Hydra Capsule we commissioned to design a hydraulic jacking system to synchronuously lifting a compete bridge deck consisting of 100 number hydraulic cylinders (ranging from 100 tonnes to 180 tonnes) across two abutments and two supporting piers for bearing replacement works.

The hydraulic system employed, ensured each support beam(s) were lifted accurate to +/- 1.00mm differential throughout each 24 jacking points per support.

The complete works were carried out in normal working hours, with "live" traffic across all three carriageways during the jacking and lifting operations. In total, the complete consisted of the bridge support decks to be lifted +10.00mm and isolated on the hydraulic jacks' mechanical locking-collars. To allow all the necessary bearing locations to be refurbished and/or replacement accordingly.

BLACK BARN, REDHILL - HYDRAULIC SYNCHRONISED LIFTING SYSTEM USED TO LIFT HOUSE +1.5 METRES

29th July 2015

Hydra Capsule have successfully lifted an entire steel-frame and timber barn over +1.50 metres to avoid the potential risk of further flooding within the Redhill area.

Hydra Capsule designed, supplied and carried out the complete works from installation of temporary propping supports connected to steel needling beams to ensure that the jacking system and support steelwork craddle would accommodate the anticipated lift. The systems consisted of 28 x 50 tonnes long stroke cylinder with a mechanical locking collars device, with a  "jack and pack" system to allow re-packing and lifting operations to the defined level.

The works involved pre-loading a defined jacking force into steel-girder framework to ensure the barn support could be cut / freed prior to the lifting operation. The lifting works were successfully completed in 4 lifting days.

Furthermore, this works are similar to another project Hydra Capsule completed, lifting a complete 5 bedroom brick-built house +1.5 metres which was documented on Sky News, BBC One Show. Below is a time-lapse of how our synchronised lifting system can be used in numerous different applications.

VICTORIA & ALBERT MUSEUM, LONDON - FLAT JACKING & MONITORING EQUIPMENT

29th May 2015

Hydra Capsule were awarded the subcontract to supply and fix approximately 65 number x grout-filled flat jacks . The flat jacks were used to pre-load excavation support struts ranging from 40 tonnes upto 900 tonnes to assist with ground works to be completed.

In additon, a load transfer for the complete southside wall of the V&A Museum was completed, which in turn weighed 400 tonnes and was synchronuously lifted across 30 number hydraulic jakcs, accurate to +/- 0.10mm throughout the jacking operation. The jacks were then transferred with cementitious grout for permanent in-situ application, maintaining existing movement and load accuracy ranging from 0.25mm and +/- 5 kNs at each jacking location.

MOTORWAY M56, THORLEY BRIDGE - BRIDGE JACKING, BEARING INSTALLATION & STRUCTURAL MONITORING

31st March 2015

Hydra Capsule recently supplied a hydraulic jacking and monitoring system for transferring a newly constructed bridge worth £5.5 million near the Manchester Airport. The huge 1,500-tonne structure was approximately 100 metres in length, was built beside the motorwar and then transported and lifted into position.

The project to install the new bridge is one of 121 in the Government's two-year £300m improvement scheme by improving road safety and tackling congestion bottlenecks.

The works involved using a mixture of 200 tonnes and 360 tonnes hydraulic jacks, interlinked pumping sets, controlled by individually synchronous pumps. With real-time load and movement monitoring at all the applicable locations. Once the bridge had been positioned. The bridge was lowered onto the hydraulic jacks to transfer the loads for the transportation units.
Once completed, the bridge deck was surveyed and adjusted by the hydraulic jacks to the specified level(s). The cylinders were mechanically locked-off with a screw-thread isolation nut for the installation of the bridge bearings and curing of the supporting plinths.

MOTORWAY M5, JUNCTION 4 WIDENING PROGRAMME - BRIDGE DECK JACKING & STRUCTURAL MONITORING

20th February 2015

Hydra Capsule were awarded the contract to supply temporary / permanent transfusion-grout flat jacks to assist the pre-loading of bridge bearings and lifting of the newly installed reinforced concrete beams.

The works involved using single, pairs and sets of grout flat jacks, rated at 50 tonnes, to pre-load newly installed bearings to the correct loads and defined bridge levels for the widening of two bridges.
Initially, the bearings were loaded with temporary fluid (ie. water and/or water) to induce the calcuated bearings loads. Once the defined load and/or uplift had been achieved (uplift of + 2.00mm). The bearings were levelled to accommodate the settlement within the newly cased concrete support piers.

The jacks were monitored for a period of time to observe (if any) movement, settlement and bedding-in occurred. Once these were achieved, the flat jacks was carefully transfused from its temporary state to the permanent grout-filled application. This operation involve gradually injection cementitiuos grout into the flat jacks' capsule, whilst releasing the temporary fluid. Maintaining load and levels throughout the operation.

All works were carried out successfully within traffice managmenet possessions using Hydra Capsule's purposed built digital monitoring and injection system.

MANCHESTER TRAFFORD PARK - TEMPORARY HYDAULIC JACKING SYSTEM & PROPPING SUPPORT TOWERS

31st January 2015

Hydra Capsule were approached to design and install 3 number temporary propping support towers at approximately 14 metres high with an integrated  hydraulic jacking and monitoring system to accurately pre-load the existing dead loads into the temporary works system. Prior to remedial works being completed on the universal support columns.

The temporary propping was design the accommodate the need to access the column(s) for maintenance inspections and remedial splice modification works. Hydraulic jacks connected with mechanically locking-collars allowed the load transfer to be permanent induced throughout the duration of the project.

In addition, Hydra Capsule supplied access scaffolding to each level of the tower (7 in total per tower), which allowed safe access throughout. All works we completed by our in-house trained and competant personnel.
